One of the podcasts that I enjoy is the Geeks and God Podcast. This podcast is well moderated and the hosts are fast paced in their delivery and well versed on the topics. The podcast has a central theme of developing websites using Drupal, but there are some good first hand stories of how technology affects our minds and bodies. During the first 13 minutes of this episode, Rob and Matt share how going tech free during vacation can clear the mind.  I would have to agree. I am not sure if could turn off all tech including my cell phone for a week. Rob ‘Feature’, describes how a tech free week was cleaning for his life. Give the first 13 minutes of this episode a listen and you decide.

It was the broken car that lead me to a weight loss in 1990. It was a pastor who lost weight that inspired me to a weight loss in 2003. It was a podcaster who has inspired me to live a balanced life…..last week. In 1990 it was eat less and ride a bicycle everywhere. In 2003, it was low carbs and high protein. The weight came back on between 1990 and 2002. The weight came back on between 2003 and today. You’ve been there. If not, you’ve at least heard of a yo-yo diet. I won’t go any further to explain the loss and gains.

I have been an active podcast listener since late 2004. Content creators sharing sequential episodes of audio available free for the taking. Long before Apple had podcast ability, I used an open source program to grab podcasts. From Adam Curry to Father Roderick and of course, Leo Laporte. As podcasting progressed, the pioneers stopped talking about podcasting itself and began creating niche content. One podcaster named Cliff Ravenscraft began podcasting in 2005. A fellow that I did not appreciate until last year. He has been my inspiration to pursue a balance life through his podcast named, Pursuing a Balanced Life.

Cliff is currently a full-time podcaster who produces over 20 podcasts which can be found at GSPN.TV. I began listening to GSPN in August of last year. I have been a somewhat engaged active listener to Cliff. Listening to his stories of how he left a secure job in a family business which he received a high salary. He began podcasting, selling equipment to podcasters and consulting on all things podcasting and content creation.

Very close to the 1st year anniversary as a full-time podcaster, Cliff had a wake-up call. I won’t share his story. I will only say that once the crisis seemed to have ended, Cliff began taking a new direction and sharing it with the listeners of his shows. Over the course of the past five months, I have listened to the change in the life of this young man. Only recently has he set a new course in what he coined as Pursuing a Balanced Life. No hocus pocus. Just a bottom of the pit determination to change things for the better one hour at a time.

Where does your inspiration come from? Who will your inspiration…inspire! In 1990, my inspiration inspired my best friend at the time to join me in the pursuit to loose weight. We took that journey together. In 2002, my inspiration inspired my wife and she joined me in the pursuit to loose weight. We both lost 40 pounds. This week, I ask you reader to read on. Let’s not simply loose weight together. Let us begin to live. To pursue balanced living. We will discover what that looks like together. Those who know me know that I like ‘F’ words such as Family, Fatherhood, Friendship, Fellowship, Fun, and Food.  My name is Maury. I am a dad on the pursuit to get fit. This is my AND story. The and parked between before and after.

Hey. Dad here. The big guy. Too much time spent sitting. Not enough time moving. So I have been repeating the phrase ‘eat less, move more’. It has to be more than positive thinking. it has to be one foot placed in front of the other. One size less milkshake. Diet instead of regular. Watermelon instead of Hershey. Water instead of juice. It needs to be 60 seconds followed by another 60 seconds. That is to say, take one minute at a time. You make it one minute without blowing it. Let’s try another minute. Good. Let’s try another. And another. An another. String enough of them together and you have the beginning of something good.
